On Tuesday a 99yrs old world war 2 veteran was released from a medical of Brazil after recovering from COVID19 with military honours.
The COVID19 survivor Ermando Piveta
was a second lieutenant , who served the Brazilian artillery in Africa during the World war 2 . He was brought out of the Medical with a burst of applause and trumpet music.
He raised his hands in the air as he left the medical after 8 days as a patient .
The Army said in a statement that he won another war this time against the novel COVID19 . He was released from the hospital on the same day when Brazilian Army was commemorating the 75th anniversary of it's successful campaign in the battle of Montese in during World war 2 in Italy .
The Army said , Ermando Piveta served in the Brazilian Army's fourth Artillery regiment , which was trained in 1942 in dakar , soon after Brazil entered the war with the side of their allies.
Soon after he returned to Brazil with his regiment to defend his country from an Axis invasion which never came to be.
Brazil is one of the worst affected country in Latin America in Coronavirus pandemic with deaths of 1,532 COVID19 patients.
