China reports 14 new COVID19 cases, toll reaches 82,877

China has reported 14 new Coronavirus cases, including 12 asymptomatic cases, taking the number of COVID19 infections in the country to 82,877 while over 4,630 patients have succumbed to the the deadly virus, health officials informed on Saturday.

China's National Health Commission said the two new COVID19 confirmed cases were reported which included one locally transmitted and another imported.

The Coronavirus death toll remained 4,633 as no fatalities due to the COVID19 were reported on Saturday while the total number of COVID19 cases increased to 82,878 with 531 still undergoing medication, it said.

China has reported a total of 1,672 COVID19 cases so far of which 451 Chinese residents coming from abroad are still being treated with six in critical conditions, the NHC said.

Also on Saturday, 12 new COVID19 asymptomatic cases were reported in China. So far of which 968 asymptomatic cases, including 98 from abroad are still under medication, it said.

The central Hubei province which was cleared of Coronavirus cases on April 26, reported 651 asymptomatic COVID19 cases as of Saturday.

Asymptomatic COVID19 cases refer to people who are tested for positive but develop no symptoms such as cough, fever or sore throat. However they pose a risk of spreading COVID19 to others.

The novel COVID19 which originated from the Wuhan city of China in December last year has claimed over  243,829 lives and has infected nearly 3.4million people globally, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
